The name “Sarah Connor” is known world-wide and is arguably one of the most well-known fictional characters of popular culture. She is, of course, the mother of John Connor, the 21st century’s leader of the human resistance to the cybernetic machines taking over the world. So, if her son John is such an important figure, why is Sarah Connor a role model? Because she begins as a young woman who, when she realizes that she’s in a dangerous predicament, calls for protection and waits to be rescued, then becomes a woman who learns to protect herself, protect her son, and even do battle with robotic killing machines sent back from the future.
(Note that this female character is not a role model because she develops characteristics typically, traditionally associated with males, i.e., physical fighting. She is a role model because she overcomes her fear, channels her emotions, and does what needs to be done, for her sake and for the sake of others.)
